Pegasus 665 - A solidly built laptop

A solidly built laptop, at 2.9kg the Pegasus 665 is one of the heavier notebooks in this round-up. Both the battery life and fan indicators are located behind the keyboard, making the overall design of the laptop quite sleek and uncluttered. The rocks 15.4” screen displays games and movies well, but then we’d expect no less from a gaming and entertainment laptop.
Featuring an nVidia GeForce Go 7600 graphics card, the quality of game play was impressive. The rock turned in the best performance of all the mid-range laptops here – producing a proud score of 21fps. As expected, the rock’s 61 world bench real world speed put it in the same league as the asus model mesh supplied. We’d have liked to see slightly better battery performance, however.

We found that the Pegasus heated up quite quickly, but its biggest let down was an irritating track pad. It provided too much resistance and made dragging the cursor inconvenient. A practical button let you lock the track pad when it’s not in use, while the keyboard itself is easy and large to type on.
Equipped with windows Vista Home premium – but hampered with a fairly minimal software bundle – the T56 lacks both integrated web cam and Bluetooth connectivity. You get three USB ports and a selection of quick access buttons to launch the web browser, email or enter the silent mode, which cuts of the fans. Although relatively well equipped and powerful, we found the Pegasus irritating to use and its paltry 81 minute battery a let down otherwise a decent multi-media laptop.
