Reviews / Xtreme CTX Pro - Microscope

Ideal for games aficionados

Big is beautiful in the world of PC gaming as the fastest processor or the largest amount of memory is a pre-requisite to attaining level of realism that gamers demand from next generation systems. So it’s was no surprise that Rock’s Xtreme CTX Pro T7600 Go 7950GTX notebook- a long name that befits a meaty machine- looked like a PC equivalent to Diana Dors when it landed on our desk. The UK system builder changed shape last year to focus on gaming machines, more specifically mobile gaming machines. Well it’s portable, although at 3.8kg you wouldn’t want to carry it around for hours. But then you need a large frame to house specifications which would make the most ardent console lover weep: Intel Core 2 Duo 7600 2.33Ghz, 4Mb L2 Cache nVidia Geforce Go GTX 512Mb, 1Gb Ram, 100Gb hard drive 7200rpm Serial ATA. Other Features include Bluetooth, a webcam, Intel 802.11 A/B/G and a three year collect and return warranty. It sells at £1749 including VAT – a price younger resellers will only be able to dream of. The CTX Pro made mincemeat of the most demanding games and offered a clear resolution with a 19inch widescreen TFT, helping to make the experience as (if not more) realistic than playing with Next Generation consoles. The Gaming market is a niche that system builders have spotted and with the general trend favouring notebooks over desktops independent resellers could do a lot worse than opt for this piece of kit.
