Rock XTV 32" LCD TV

Rockdirect will be much more familiar to PC Plus readers for its notebooks. But the company is branching out into LCD TVs, and it’s making a good start with the 32in X-TV. Costing £699, it’s a keenly priced set, yet it has few compromises on features. Although the X-TV offers DVI, component video and a generous three SCART inputs, most importantly it includes HDMI with HDCP support.

The native resolution is 1,366x768; so only 720p HD content can be displayed natively. But up to 1080i video can be input, and it handles our 1080i test footage perfectly well, with a crisp, clear image. If the X-TV has one drawback, it’s that the built-in TV tuner is analog only, which means that you’ll need a set-top box to pick up Freeview.

But if you’re looking for a great-value screen to go with your shiny new HDTV service, you’ll be hard pressed to find a 32in LCD TV with this range of features and image quality for less than the Rock. More adventurous buyers should note that it also comes in red, blue and pink.
