Desktop replacement laptops

What a brute of a laptop the Rock SL Pro is. The 20in screen is a joy to behold, producing sharp video and graphics with vibrant colours and good contrast. If you’re specifically after a machine capable of watching movies or playing games at giant proportions, this laptop does the job.
We found several negative points, however. For one thing, the Rock heats up quickly – especially the area in front of the trackpad. We also had trouble typing on the inconvenient keyboard, while the power supply lost its connection occasionally.

The Rock includes five USB ports, Bluetooth and a, b, and g Wi-Fi. The metallic casing complements the black keyboard and features sophisticated looking speakers. The audio quality is exceptional – perfect for entertainment and gaming.

The specs are what you’d expect from a laptop that’s primarily intended as a desktop replacement, with 2GHz processor speed and 2GB of memory. The two 160GB hard disks, however, exceed our expectations. Quick access buttons feature beside the speakers for actions such as launching web and email applications and activating Bluetooth.
The Rocks battery life was fairly disappointing – but shouldn’t be much of a concern for a desktop replacement.

VERDICT

The Rock is a fully featured multimedia and gaming laptop and would be a highly capable replacement for your desktop. The price is excessive, however.
