Rock kicks off 2008 with another industry first

rock launch the Xtreme 770 with the Intel® Core™2 Extreme processor X9000

January 8, 2008: Warwick, England: rock Group PLC the UK’s no.1 performance notebook manufacturer announced today the launch of the multi-award winning Xtreme 770 gaming laptop featuring the Intel® Core™2 Extreme processor X9000. Coupled with the recently launched NVIDIA Geforce 8800M GTX graphics card, the X9000 makes the Xtreme 770 one of fastest notebooks in the world.

Based on 45nm ‘Penryn’ technology, Intel promises better gaming and multimedia performance over its 65nm X7900 Extreme Edition counterpart by increasing the core clock speed to 2.8GHz and packing 6MB L2 cache memory. What’s more, Intel has also added new video and graphics capabilities with Intel HD Boost that includes Intel Streaming SIMD Extensions 4 (SSE4) for speeding up workloads including video encoding for high-definition and photo manipulation.

The X9000 launch is part of the ‘Santa Rosa’ mobile platform refresh announced at CES, Las Vegas yesterday, one of the largest consumer electronic shows. Four other processors have also been introduced to the Core 2 Duo line-up, namely the T8100 running at 2.1GHz, T8300 at 2.3GHz, the T9300 at 2.5GHz and the T9500 clocking in at 2.6GHz.

Rock’s revised range of Xtreme 770 notebooks will start from £1399 inc VAT featuring an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T8300 2.3GHz 3MB Cache, 2GB RAM, 120GB 7200rpm HDD, HD-DVD drive and 3 years European Collect & Return insurance backed warranty.

‘Penryn’ has already been available in desktop form since November 2007 and first to boast the use of high-k (Hi-k) metal gate silicon technology. Hi-k brings an extra level of efficiency to the Intel Core micro architecture which almost doubles the transistor capacity per processor meaning overall 20% improvement in transistor switching speeds, higher clock speeds and improved energy efficiency.

Rock customers with outstanding orders for the Xtreme 770 will automatically receive a ‘Penryn’ upgrade free of charge. Notebooks are due to ship 3rd week January.
