Vista MCE not opening after 28th August Windows Vista update.
If Media centre hangs indefinitely on boot (not just for a minute or so) or If Media centre hangs on the Download TV setup options
Disable UAC. To do this go to control panel then open 'Users' and click 'Turn user account control on or off' (Windows security may ask you to confirm the action) then another window opens -> un tick the only available option and confirm the reboot required.
Open the C drive and navigate to c:\Programdata\Microsoft and right click 'ehome' directory, go to properties then security. Click on the “Authenticated users” and click 'full control' do the same for 'computername\users' -> Apply then click advanced then Edit -> tick the box 'replace all existing inheritable permissions' etc. Apply and ok and ok all other Dialogue box’s.
Now navigate to c:\Programdata\microsoft\ehome\EPG\Tracehelper and delete the contents
Reboot the machine
Now try again to setup the TV signal when you get to the part 'download TV setup options' it WILL hang again – but what we have done is recreated what we deleted earlier.
Now navigate to C:\Programdata\microsoft\ehome\EPG\Tracehelper right click and edit the 'Default domain' XML file and delete the contents.
Now reboot and you should be good to setup your signal again!
Enable UAC. To do this go to control panel then open 'Users' and click 'Turn user account control on or off' (Windows security may ask you to confirm the action) then another window opens -> tick the only available option and confirm the reboot required.
Please note. Turning off User account control (UAC) may cause undesired effects that rock will not be held responsible.
