Delivering desktop capabilities to mobile users 06.02.02
rockdirect.com has launched the world's first portable PC
based on the Intel's most advanced x86 microprocessor, the
Pentium 4. With its superb performance and feature set, the
Rock Xeno truly lives up to the name "desktop replacement,"
with capabilities the equal of a high-end desktop system but
in a light and trim portable device.
As the slimmest P4 notebook in the world, in terms of its
36mm thinnest part, the Xeno facilitates amazing thermal
technology enhancement besides its stylish body shape. Highly
efficient ventilation system consists of a wide area of
heatsink integrated with two powerful heatpipes, and two fans.
This combination generates an excellent score of heat
dissipation for running high speed P4 processors.
Running the Pentium 4 processor at speeds up to 2.2 GHz,
the Xeno provides an unprecedented level of performance for a
notebook computer. Together with this powerful CPU, the Xeno’s
video subsystem, based on the ATI Mobility Radeon chip and
16MB of DDR video memory, also brings workstation-level 3D
graphics for incredible online gaming or responsive handling
of demanding modeling applications.
For comfortable viewing, the Xeno provides a large 14.1"
TFT LCD. With its high-resolution large-screen LCD, the Xeno
not only provides a great viewing experience for games, Web
browsing, and multimedia playback, but also comfortable
handling of large or finely detailed documents and images.
To be the earliest P4 notebook in the world, the Xeno chose
the most mature and available Intel genuine 845 core logic,
delivering the best performance with stability and leveraging
the most affordable PC133 SDRAM technology. Future migration
of DDR memory along with sophisticatedly integrated new
graphics engine will be coming later. In addition, the Xeno
supports a number of other outstanding features. For example,
the new portable boasts a 400 MHz front side bus, allowing it
to smoothly multitask a large number of the most memory-hungry
applications without performance degradation or system
instability.
For storage, the Xeno offers a choice of high-capacity
Fujitsu hard disk drives with Silent HDD Technology. And
within its compact form, weighing less than 3 kilograms, the
notebook also integrates an optical drive—either a DVD-ROM
drive, or DVD/CD-RW combo drive—as well as an internal modem,
Fast Ethernet connector, optical S/PDIF sound output, and
comprehensive audio facilities with built-in microphone and
stereo speakers.
For connecting external devices, the Xeno not only provides
standard ports such as USB port, VGA port and a
CardBus-compliant PC Card slot, but also a IEEE 1394 port for
connecting high-bandwidth items such as video camcorders, an
S-video TV-out port, and even a parallel port for connecting
legacy peripherals.
Moreover, the Xeno includes five built-in Easy Start
Buttons and one button for instant checks of new email
received. By simplifying common tasks, these help users save
time and raise productivity. Moreover, the keyboard of the
Xeno is especially designed in light of ergonomic concerns,
ensuring that users can comfortably and efficiently use the
notebook even over long periods of time.
“Affordable portables for end-users” is always one of the
prime product philosophies for rockdirect.com; end-users will
be able to enjoy a most favorable price advantage based on the
most advanced technology.
With prices starting at just £1,199, the Xeno will begin
shipping in February and rockdirect.com expect interest in
this new product to be high.
