Introduction

This booklet has been designed to help the novice user to set up their Xtreme notebook computer with Windows XPH. Some knowledge of computers is required to follow through this booklet. If you experience any difficulties when setting up the software, contact Mobile Support Customer Services.

Please ensure all extra devices (PC cards, Modems, Network cards, external mice etc.) are removed before starting this installation.

If you have any queries regarding any part of this installation, please do not hesitate to contact the Mobile support technical support department

Please have the following disks and CD's to hand, as theses will be required during the process of installing Windows to your hard drive.

This Installation process may take up to 2 hours to install depending on the speed of your machine. Please backup any files required, as the hard drive is going to be completely wiped clean.

Complete Reinstall
WARNING: ALL DATA ON HARD DISK DRIVE WILL BE DELETED

These instructions assume a completely blank Hard Disk.

  1. Switch on the Xtreme, when prompted, press F2 to enter set-up.
  2. Select boot and enable 1st boot CD-ROM Drive 2nd boot Diskette A and 3rd boot Hard Disk C. Using the - + keys change the values.
  3. Select OK and then Exit, then Exit and Save. Click on OK to confirm.
  4. Insert Windows XP CD and reboot the computer. Wait while Windows XP loads some files. This may make some time.
  5. Press Enter to set-up Windows XP.
  6. Press to agree with License agreement.
  7. Press [D] to delete current active partition. Press enter to continue and [L] to confirm.
  8. Press Enter to install using un-partitioned space.
  9. Press Enter to 'format the partition using the NTFS file system' and continue with the installation. This will take some time depending on the hard drive capacity.
  10. Set-up will perform routine checks and continue to install windows. The coping process can be view in the bottom right hand corner.
  11. After installation is complete windows will restart, press enter to avoid waiting.
  12. DO NOT boot from the CDROM Drive windows has installed on your hard drive now. After restarting it will continue to install final files and approximate time can be view on the right hand side of the screen.
  13. Click Customize to change Regional and Language settings and then click OK.
  14. Click Details to change input language and then click OK.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Type name and Organization. Press Next.
  17. Carefully enter the Product ID number found on your certificate of Authenticity, which is found on the Windows manual or cellophane wrapped around the pack. Once finished click next.
  18. Choose a name for your computer and enter an administrator password. Press Next.
  19. Select NO to activate windows. Click Next.
  20. At least one user must be entered. Click Next.
  21. Click Finish to complete the installation.
  22. The machine will boot into Windows.
  23. Congratulations, you have now installed Windows XPHome. All that is left is to check and install, if necessary the Video, Audio, Modem and Network card drivers.

Installation of Video drivers on Xtreme under Windows XP

  1. Boot into windows.
  2. Double click CDROM drive from my computer
  3. Select the drivers folder
  4. Select the video driver folder and Windows XP folder
  5. Double click the Set-up Launcher file and follow the on screen instructions
  6. Restart the machine once complete and check the screen resolution from display properties.
  7. Click the Settings tab from the menu above and change the screen area and colours to Size: 1400 x 1050, Colours: Highest (32 Bit)
  8. Apply these setting by clicking on apply then YES to keep changes and OK.

Installation of Sound Drivers on Xtreme Under Windows XP

  1. Boot into windows.
  2. You may find that Windows XP has already installed the Audio drivers. To check right -click my computer, click properties, click hardware and then click Device manager.
  3. If drivers are not installed or you wish to re-install from the drivers disk, then continue.
  4. Insert the drivers CD-ROM supplied with the computer.
  5. Double click CDROM drive from my computer
  6. Select the drivers folder
  7. Select the video driver folder and Windows XP folder
  8. Double click the Set-up Launcher file and follow the on screen instructions
  9. Click Finish and restart the machine.

The Sound drivers are now installed - to test reboot the computer and you should hear a jingle as Windows restarts


Installation of the PCI card (Modem) on Xtreme for Windows XP

  1. Boot into Windows.
  2. Insert the drivers CD supplied with the computer.
  3. Right click on My Computer, click properties, click hardware and then click Device Manager.
  4. Double click PCI Modem; this device is listed under Other Devices.
  5. Click the reinstall driver tab.
  6. Click next and next again.
  7. Click Continue anyway.
  8. Change Country for modem settings. Click OK.
  9. Click Finish and then Close.

Installation of the Ethernet card on Xtreme for Windows XP

  1. Boot into windows.
  2. You may find that Windows XP has already installed the Audio drivers. To check Right -click my computer, click properties, click hardware and then click Device manager.
  3. If drivers are not installed or you wish to re-install from the drivers disk, then continue.
  4. Insert the drivers CD-ROM supplied with the computer.
  5. The CD will auto-run and you will see the contents screen. Select open folder to view files and click OK.
  6. Double click the LAN folder.
  7. Double click Set-up (Computer icon) from the menu.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Continue anyway.
  10. Click Finish and restart the machine as requested.
