Introduction

This booklet has been designed to help the novice user to set up their Xeno notebook computer with Windows XP operating system. Some knowledge of computers is required to follow through this booklet. If you experience any difficulties when setting up the software, contact mobile-support Customer Services on 08700 667 999.

Please ensure all extra devices (PC cards, Modems, Network cards, external mice etc.) are removed before starting this installation.

Please have the following disks and CD�s to hand, as theses will be required during the process of installing Windows to your hard drive.

This Installation process may take up to 2 hours to install depending on the speed of your machine. Please backup any files required, as the hard drive is going to be completely wiped clean.

WARNING: ALL DATA ON HARD DISK DRIVE WILL BE DELETED

  1. Turn the notebook on and insert the Windows XP Professional installation CD.
  2. After the power on self-test the Xeno M will display a prompt, press the F8 key to enter the boot menu.
  3. Select the CD-ROM and press return when prompted press any key to boot from the Windows XP Professional CD. Wait for Windows XP Professional whilst set-up loads some files and prepare the drive for Windows XP Professional installation.
  4. Press enter to set-up Windows XP Professional when prompted
  5. Windows Wizard will now set-up Windows XP Professional
  6. Read the license agreement and, press F8 �I accept the agreement�
  7. If prompted press the Esc. Key to continue with the installation.
  8. Press [D] to delete the partition that�s active. Confirm by pressing enter on the next screen followed by [L] Key to finalise. After the partition is deleted the total disk space available will be showed in MB �Megabytes�. Press enter to install using un-partitioned space
  9. Format the partition using the NTFS file system and press enter
  10. Please wait while the set-up formats the partition, this may take a while depending on the hard drive size. After a short while the notebook will restart, let the notebook boot from the hard disk and continue with the installation process.
  11. Set-up will examine your drive and copy files, this may take several minutes to complete, during this process the screen may flicker a few times this is normal.
  12. Enter the regional settings and then click next to proceed.
  13. Type in your personal details (name and organisation) and then click next to continue.
  14. Carefully enter the Product ID number found on your Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and then click Next. The COA is usually found on the cellophane wrapped around the Windows pack or it will be stuck to the base of your notebook (The COA will be in the following format: XXXXX - XXXXX - XXXXX - XXXXX - XXXXX)
  15. Enter an Administrator password and click on Next. (This may be left blank, however for security it is best that you set an administrator password and keep it in a safe place)
  16. Set the date time and time zone, once finished click next to continue.
  17. Click next to proceed with the Typical network settings, and when prompted click next again.
  18. Click OK twice to adjust the display settings.
  19. Click Next to start the customisation of the installation.
  20. Click on Skip, and then click on No remind me every few days. And then click on Next.
  21. Enter a User name and click on Next.
  22. Now click on Finish.
  23. The notebook will now boot into Windows XP.
  24. Congratulations, you have now installed Windows XP Professional. All that is left is to install is the video drivers and modem, network card drivers - instructions are included below.

Installation of Video drivers on Xeno M under Windows XP Professional

  1. Boot into windows, and insert the driver cd supplied with the notebook.
  2. When the Auto Start notification starts double click on � Open Folder to view Files�
  3. Double click the Drivers folder. Double click the VGA folder. Double click the Win2k&XP; folder and then Double click the setup.exe icon
  4. Click next and choose a Custom installation. Then click on Next three times. Now click Finish to restart the notebook and complete the installation.
  5. Once the notebook has restarted Right Click on the desktop and select properties, Click the Settings tab from the menu above and change the screen resolution to Size: 1024x768 and set the Colours: High Colour (16 Bit) and then click on OK to confirm the settings. And then click yes to keep the settings. Now click on the OK button to finalise the installation.

Installation of Sound Drivers on Xeno M Under Windows XP Professional

  1. Boot into windows, and insert the driver cd supplied with the notebook.
  2. When the Auto Start notification starts double click on � Open Folder to view Files�
  3. Double click the driver folder. Double click the Audio folder and double click on the SETUP.exe icon.
  4. Click on Next and the Next again. (Setup will copy the required files to the hard disk)
  5. Click on Finish to restart the notebook. The Sound drivers are now installed - You should hear a jingle as Windows restarts - providing the volume control (located at the front of the notebook) is turned up.

Installation of the PCI card (modem) on Xeno M for Windows XP Professional

  1. Boot into windows, and insert the driver cd supplied with the notebook.
  2. When the Auto Start notification starts double click on � Open Folder to view Files�
  3. Double click the driver folder. Double click the Modem folder. Double click on the WinXP folder and double click on the SETUP.exe icon.
  4. Setup will copy across the files that are required for the installation.

Installation of LAN Drivers on Xeno M Under Windows XP Professional

  1. Boot into windows, and insert the driver cd supplied with the notebook.
  2. When the Auto Start notification starts double click on � Open Folder to view Files�.
  3. Double click the driver folder. Double click the Modem folder. Double click on the SETUP.exe icon.
  4. Click on Next. (Setup will now copy the required files to the hard disk)
  5. Click on Finish to restart the notebook.

Installation of the Mini PCI Wireless LAN Drivers on Xeno M Under Windows XP Professional

  1. Boot into windows, and insert the driver cd supplied with the notebook.
  2. When the Auto Start notification starts double click on � Open Folder to view Files�.
  3. Double click the driver folder. Double click the Minipci-wireless LAN folder. Double click theGemtekminipci version001.exe icon.
  4. Click on Next, now click on next again. Now click on Yes. Setup will copy the required files to the hard disk.
