Introduction

This booklet has been designed to help the novice user to set up their Rock Virtuoso notebook computer with Windows 95. Some knowledge of computers is required to follow through this booklet. If you experience any difficulties when setting up the software, contact mobile-support.net Customer Services.

Please ensure all extra devices (PC cards, Modems, Network cards, external mice etc.) are removed before starting this installation.

Setting Up Using Floppy Disk

If you are installing Windows 95 from floppy disk drive ignore the following sections:


Setting Up The Hibenation Partition

NOTE : ALL DATA ON HARD DISK DRIVE WILL BE DELETED

  1. Put in the disk labeled "PHDISK" in the Floppy Disk Drive
  2. Switch on computer, the computer will boot from the Floppy Disk Drive
  3. At the DOS Prompt ("A:\>") type in "PHDISK /CREATE". PHDISK will now create the 'Save to Disk' partition.
  4. Once this is done, Re-Boot your machine by pressing: CTRL+ALT+DELETE (all simultaneously)
Your 'Save to Disk / Hibernation mode' is now setup.


Partitioning & Formatting The Hard Disk Drive

  1. Put in your Windows 95 "DSP CD-ROM Setup Boot Disk"
  2. Switch on computer, the computer will boot from the Floppy Disk Drive
  3. At the DOS Prompt ("A:\>") type in "FDISK". The computer will now load the program FDISK
  4. You will now be in the FDISK menu. Press Return FOUR times. The computer will write the partition information and Re-Boot
  5. Leave the disk in the computer
  6. At the DOS Prompt ("A:\>") type in "FORMAT C:/U/S" The following promt will be displayed: WARNING: ALL DATA ON-NON REMOVABLE DISK DRIVE C: WILL BE LOST. PROCEED WITH FORMAT (Y/N)
  7. Press the 'Y' key.
  8. The format process may take up to 35 minutes, this is normal. After the format is complete a volume label and files are added to the root directory of the hard disk (these are vitally important and must remain on the disk unmodified)
  9. Take out the floppy disk. Once this is done Re-Boot your machine by pressing: CTRL+ALT+DELETE (all simultaneously)


Setting Up The CD-ROM Driver

  1. Check that there is no Disk in the Floppy Disk Drive
  2. Put in the disk labeled "TEAC 4X CD-ROM Driver"
  3. At the DOS Prompt ("C:\>") type "A:" and press Return
  4. Now type in the following: 'COPY A:\TEAC_CDI.SYS C:\'
  5. Then type: 'COPY A:\CORELCDX.COM C:\'
  6. At the DOS Prompt ("A:\>") type "C:" and press Return
  7. At the DOS Prompt ("C:\>") type in following: 'ECHO DEVICE=C:\TEAC_CDI.SYS /D:TEAC-CDI /P:P >> CONFIG.SYS'
  8. Then type: 'ECHO C:\CORELCDX.COM /D:TEAC-CDI /M:15 >> AUTOEXEC.BAT'
  9. Switch OFF the computer in take out the Floppy Disk Drive and insert the CD-ROM Drive


Installation Of Windows 95 OEM on CD-ROM

  1. Switch on the computer
  2. Insert the Windows 95 OEM CD-ROM.
  3. Type "D:" and press RETURN
  4. Type "Setup" and press RETURN, setup will perform a quick scandisk of drive C:
  5. Click on CONTINUE or press return, windows will now prepare the hard disk for installation
  6. THE LICENSING AGREEMENT WILL BE DISPLAY PLEASE READ AND PRESS YES TO CONTINUE
  7. Click on NEXT to continue.
  8. Click on NEXT to install Windows 95 to the Windows directory (this is installation default, Windows will now prepare the directory for installation)
  9. Click on PORTABLE as you have a laptop
  10. Windows will now prompt you for the PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (this is found on the front cover of the Windows 95 Manual.)
  11. Enter your NAME and your COMPANY (if applicable).
  12. Select SOUND, MIDI, OR VIDEO CAPTURE CARD.
  13. Click on NEXT. Windows will now analyse your computer, this may take 2-3 minutes, follow on screen instructions if set-up stops for a long period of time
  14. Click on the check boxes you wish to install,

  15. A) THE MICROSOFT NETWORK
    B) MICROSOFT MAIL
    C) MICROSOFT FAX
    click on NEXT.
  16. Click on INSTALL THE MOST COMMON COMPONENTS
  17. If you want a start-up disk please insert a blank floppy now (HIGH DENSITY). This is recommended, if windows hangs the start-up disk will allow to safe recover
  18. To start copying files click on NEXT. Windows will now be installed, this will take around 25-35 minutes. dependent on CPU speed/CD-ROM speed
  19. Click on FINISH. Windows will now restart, this will also take several minutes
  20. Windows will now ask the REGIONAL SETTINGS. (use the mouse, or the pull down menu to select region)
  21. Click on NEXT.
  22. Click on OK to reset the machine.


Setting Up Of Lanuage In Windows 95

  1. In Windows 95 goto START then to SETTINGS and CONTROL PANEL
  2. Select KEYBOARD by pointing to & double clicking the mouse button
  3. Select LANGUAGE
  4. Select ADD and move down the languages until you get to "ENGLISH (British)"
  5. Select "ENGLISH (British)"
  6. Now highlight "ENGLISH (United States)" and select REMOVE
  7. Select OK. Windows will now load the files it requires from the CD
  8. Now select REGIONAL
  9. Move up the selection until you get to "ENGLISH (British)"
  10. Select "ENGLISH (British)"
  11. Select OK


Setting Up Of The Display

  1. In Windows 95 goto START then to SETTINGS and CONTROL PANEL
  2. Select DISPLAY by pointing to & double clicking the mouse button
  3. Select SETTINGS
  4. Select CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE
  5. Select CHANGE under Monitor Type
  6. Select LAPTOP DISPLAY (800x600) and select OK
  7. Select Close
  8. Select 256 Color under Color Palette
  9. Select OK

Windows may now load files, follow on screen instructions


Setting Up Of The PCMCIA Driver To 32Bit Mode

  1. In Windows 95 goto START then to SETTINGS and CONTROL PANEL
  2. Select SYSTEM by pointing to & double clicking the mouse button
  3. Select PERFORMANCE
  4. Highlight PCMCIA SETTINGS & double click
  5. Now follow the on screen instructions
  6. Windows will load the files it requires and switch OFF your machine
  7. Once machine is OFF switch ON to carry on with settings


Setting Up Of The Windows 95 PCI IDE Driver

  1. After Windows 95 has Booted , Click on Start
  2. Select RUN. Type "A:\install.exe"
  3. Follow the instructions step by step to install the driver
  4. Click on Next
  5. Select No and Click on Next
  6. Select Hard disk controller
  7. Click on Next. Click on Have disk
  8. Type "A:\"
  9. Select National Semiconductor Dual PCI IDE Controller (PC87410)
  10. Click on Next
  11. Click on Next. Click on Finish
  12. You will now see a message that reads: To finish setting up your new device driver you must restart your computer. Do you want to restart your computer now? YES NO
  13. Click on YES and restart computer.
  14. When Windows 95 reboots, it will detect the PCI IDE controller twice.
  15. When Win95 will ask you to reboot the first time select 'NO'.
  16. Win 95 will perform a few more actions and will find the secondary IDE controller, now Win 95 will ask you to re-boot select 'YES'.
